Gem of Xiuwu: Ode to the Agateware

"Gem of Xiuwu: Ode to the Agateware" is a return of local crafts, as well as the first exhibition focusing on agateware art in China. As one of the most special porcelain from the Dangyangyu Kiln, agateware was born in Tang Dynasty and reached its peak in Song and Jin dynasties. Xiuwu is the home to agateware, a gem that forever belongs to this land.

The complexity and difficulty of marbling need no further elaboration. However, for ceramic artists who devote themselves to this craft, the greater challenge is to express themselves in front of this strong style, because the road from craft to art is to take inspiration from the nature, get rid of the constraint of techniques, and turn it into a carrier of individual creation. The section not only showcases the marbling creations from Chinese and foreign ceramic artists but presents a series of agateware created by a group of young Chinese creators.

The exhibition sets a stage for the return of agateware, an art once thrived in Tang Dynasty, and a gem forever belongs to Xiuwu.
